Wayne has been an avid historian since completing his studies in Leicester many years ago. His enthusiasm for all periods of history has often led to him to be accused of being a history nerd, especially by his patient wife. Although interested in all aspects of history, he harbours a weakness for two periods in particular – The Golden Age of Piracy and The Roman Empire. This is reflected in the choice of topics for his novels.
The Pyrate Chronicles series is inspired by great works such as Treasure Island, Gulliver’s Travels, and Captain Johnson’s 1724 A General Historie of the Robberies and Murders of the Most Notorious Pyrates, as well as the award winning series Black Sails. The book series combines authentic history with fantasy realism together with a dash of humour and social criticism. He has also written two other unrelated novels under the title of End of Empire, which deals with crossing of the Rhine by the Vandals. Wayne believes that story telling is a way to make history more appealing.
Originally from the south west of England, he is now living in the north of Germany with his wife. In his free time he practices the Japanese martial art of Bujinkan, plays music, and is a keen gardener.
