The London-born pirate, associated with Olivier Levasseur and Thomas Cocklyn, was active in the Caribbean and off the coast of Africa on his ship the Rising Sun. In 1719, after a mutiny he and 12 of his supporters were set adrift in a small boat never to be seen again. “A black Flag, having a white Man painted in it, with three Arrows, whose Points were turn’d toward a red Heart, and underneath it were some red Spots, resembling Blood” Post Boy, 25/4/1719.
